ALBAY BRACES FOR OPONG: CLASSES REMAIN CANCELED, SIGNAL #3 UP!

LEGAZPI CITY – The Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has issued Advisory 2025-34 at 10:00 PM today, September 25, 2025, in response to Severe Tropical Storm "Opong."
 
Based on PAGASA's tracking, the storm was located approximately 150 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center and gusts up to 135 km/h. "Opong" is moving west-northwest at 20 km/h, with storm-force winds extending up to 460 km from the center.
 
The PDRRMC-APSEMO has directed the following:
 
1. Class Suspensions: Face-to-face classes for both public and private schools are suspended until further notice. Work in government remains suspended tomorrow. The private sector is also encouraged to suspend work.
2. Sailing Ban: All types of sea vessels are prohibited from sailing.
3. River Crossing Advisory: Residents along river channels are advised to take precautions and avoid river crossings, fishing, and swimming due to potential river swelling and flash floods.
4. DRRMC Vigilance: City, municipal, and barangay DRRMCs are urged to monitor their respective areas, especially those prone to flood, lahar, flash floods, and landslides. They should remain alert and standby for updates from PAGASA and local authorities.
5. Coordination: All C/MDRRMOs are directed to coordinate closely, submit reports, and mobilize resources as needed.
 
A portion of Albay, including Manito, Legazpi City, Daraga, Camalig, Guinobatan, City of Ligao, Pioduran, Jovellar, Libon, and Oas, is now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3, while the rest of Albay is under TCWS No. 2.
 
Governor Noel E. Rosal urged strict compliance with the advisory in the interest of disaster avoidance and public safety.
