Albay Governor Unveils Bold Plans to Transform Bicol
Legazpi City, Albay – In a recent interview, Albay Governor Noel E. Rosal now the Regional Development Council Chairman of Bicol, he detailed a series of priority programs aimed at transforming the Bicol region through strategic infrastructure development and economic growth initiatives.

Governor Rosal emphasized the importance of upgrading the Philippine National Railways (PNR) to provide a modern, efficient, sustainable, and affordable mass transportation system. "This is the solution to alleviate the difficulties faced by the people of Bicol," he stated, highlighting the PNR as a vital alternative transportation option connecting the region to the National Capital Region.

Seaport development is another key focus, with particular attention on enhancing the Pantao port, which the Governor described as "opening the west" to Mindanao and Visayas. Improvements to the Matnog port are also a priority to reduce congestion and logistical challenges that currently impact businesses.

Rosal also discussed plans for the old Legazpi Airport, drawing inspiration from Iloilo's successful conversion of its former airport into a township. He envisions a similar development in Legazpi, potentially including a convention center, offices, malls, call centers, and hotels to stimulate employment and economic activity.

Addressing the Bicol International Airport (BIA), Governor Rosal acknowledged its potential as a gateway to the region. He expressed his commitment to attracting international flights and additional airlines, such as AirAsia, to make air travel more affordable and accessible for tourists.

Furthermore, Rosal underscored the significance of the Bicol River Basin programs, stressing the need for alignment with the genuine needs of the community. He intends to collaborate with the Regional Development Council (RDC) to ensure effective implementation of these crucial initiatives.

"These are just some of the important steps we are taking for our RDC," Governor Rosal concluded, indicating a comprehensive and forward-looking approach to regional development.
