Albay Targets Swift Sabo Dam Rehab to End Masarawag Flood Woes
Guinobatan, Albay – The Albay Provincial Government is moving quickly to address the persistent flooding in Barangay Masarawag, Guinobatan, with Governor Noel Rosal issuing a marching order to resolve the issue. Provincial Engineer Dante Baclao, in a recent interview with Bicol Net TV, confirmed that the cause of the flooding has been identified as a 30- to 40-year-old Sabo Dam in need of urgent repair.
Engineer Baclao assured the public that the provincial government is committed to accelerating the rehabilitation project. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "Gigibuhon ta an pinakamadaling paagi.. kung kinakaipuhan ngunyan na taon mas maray.." ("We will do it in the easiest way possible... if it's needed this year, all the better.")
The aging Sabo Dam, designed to control sediment and water flow, has deteriorated over time, compromising its ability to protect the community from flooding. The rehabilitation project aims to restore the dam's functionality and provide a long-term solution to the recurring problem.
Engineer Baclao's remarks highlight the provincial government's determination to expedite the project and provide immediate relief to the residents of Barangay Masarawag. The rehabilitation of the Sabo Dam is expected to significantly reduce the risk of flooding and improve the overall safety and well-being of the community.
