LAGMAN URGES PROBE INTO AKO BICOL PARTYLIST'S ALLEGED DPWH PROJECT BENEFACTION
LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – During a recent meeting between the provincial government of Albay, led by Governor Noel Rosal, Congresswoman Krisel Lagman, and the DPWH, Rep. Lagman called for a comprehensive investigation into the Ako Bicol Partylist's role as a purported benefactor of DPWH projects in Albay's first district.
Lagman specifically targeted Ako Bicol Congressman Zaldy Co, alleging his responsibility for project insertion and budget allocation. She further claimed that the partylist was instrumental in creating the program, acts as the contractor, and ultimately reaps the benefits of said projects.
In a pointed statement, Lagman questioned the very nature of the partylist's representation: "Shouldn't the partylist also be investigated? Are they truly representatives of the people? What is a partylist for? Isn't it meant to stand up for sectors that have no voice in Congress? The marginalized. Are they marginalized? The entire party should be investigated to determine who benefited from past elections."
Lagman's remarks underscore concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the misuse of public funds. She emphasized the need to examine whether Ako Bicol Partylist's involvement in DPWH projects is aligned with the principles of fair representation and transparency.
The call for investigation adds another layer of scrutiny to ongoing discussions about government contracts and infrastructure development in the region. It remains to be seen whether authorities will heed Lagman's call and launch a full-scale investigation into the matter.
