Legazpi City Police Chief Urges Establishments to Take Bomb Threats Seriously, Emphasizes Evacuation Preparedness

Legazpi City, Albay – In an exclusive interview with Bicol Net TV, Legazpi City Chief of Police PLTCOL Domingo Tapel Jr. stressed the importance of preparedness and immediate action in the event of a bomb threat. His remarks come in the wake of a bomb threat received by Bicol University (BU) yesterday, which was delivered via a message to the school's official Facebook page.
 
PLTCOL Tapel Jr. emphasized that schools and establishments should treat every bomb threat seriously and immediately initiate evacuation procedures. He pointed out the critical importance of having a well-defined and regularly practiced Evacuation Plan for every establishment.
 
"It is crucial that every school and establishment has a clear Evacuation Plan in place," stated PLTCOL Tapel Jr. "This plan should be well-known to all occupants, and regular drills should be conducted to ensure everyone knows the proper procedures."
 
He further highlighted the necessity of having a reliable alarm system that clearly signals the need for evacuation. "Establishments must have an alarm system where everyone understands the meaning of the alarm sound," he explained. "This will allow them to react quickly and appropriately, minimizing confusion and panic."
 
PLTCOL Tapel Jr. warned that a lack of preparedness can lead to dangerous situations, such as stampedes, in the event of an actual threat. "Stampedes can occur when people are unsure of what to do or where to go," he said. "A well-rehearsed Evacuation Plan and a clear alarm system are essential to prevent such incidents."
 
The Legazpi City Police is working closely with local schools and establishments to provide guidance and support in developing and implementing effective security measures. The recent bomb threat at Bicol University serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and preparedness in the face of potential threats.
