PNP ASSISTS CROWD CONTROL AS BICOL UNIVERSITY SUSPENDS OPERATIONS FOLLOWING BOMB THREAT
Legazpi City, Albay – Uniformed personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP) were deployed to Bicol University (BU) Main Campus today, October 8, to assist with crowd control as a massive number of students and personnel exited the premises following an alleged bomb threat.
The university administration made the decision to suspend all on-site classes and work after BU's official social media page received a threat directed at the BU Daraga, West, and East campuses. The suspension was implemented immediately to allow for a thorough safety assessment of the concerned areas, prioritizing the security and well-being of all university personnel and students.
In response to the threat, classes and work within the university have been shifted to an online asynchronous modality until further notice. This transition aims to ensure the continuity of learning and operations while minimizing risk to the university community.
The sudden announcement of the suspension led to a significant commotion, with a large number of students simultaneously attempting to leave the main campus. This surge of people caused a considerable bottleneck at the university gates, resulting in a traffic jam in front of the main campus along [mention the name of the road if known]. The presence of the PNP helped to manage the flow of people and ensure a safe and orderly evacuation.
University officials are working closely with law enforcement agencies to investigate the source and credibility of the threat. Students and personnel are advised to remain vigilant and await further instructions from the university administration through official channels.
