Torchlight Brigade: Bicol Groups March Against DPWH Corruption in Flood Projects!
LEGAZPI CITY, ALBAY – A coalition of groups, including Bunyog Partylist, Kilusang Mambubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), Kabataan, and various fisherfolk organizations, staged a protest in front of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 5 office today to condemn what they call rampant corruption within the government. The protesters specifically targeted alleged corruption related to flood control projects.

The groups, coordinating with the Albay Movement Against Corruption, are planning a torch parade this afternoon, set to begin around 4:00 PM. Participants will gather at three different points: the Daraga Covered Court, Tektone Village in Rizal, Legazpi, and the Redemptorist Church.

The protesters will then march to PeƱaranda Park in Legazpi City, where they intend to hold a program to further voice their grievances and demand greater transparency and accountability in government spending, particularly concerning infrastructure projects designed to mitigate flooding.

The organizers claim that corruption is undermining the effectiveness of these projects, leaving communities vulnerable to the devastating impacts of floods. They are calling for thorough investigations into alleged irregularities and demanding that those found responsible be held accountable.
