Congressman Loria Pushes for Classroom Acceleration Act to Address Nationwide Shortage

Legazpi City, Albay – Congressman Carlos Andes Loria of Albay's second district has taken decisive action to address the critical shortage of classrooms plaguing the Philippine education system. He has filed the Classroom Acceleration Act, a bill designed to expedite the construction and repair of classrooms across the nation. The proposed legislation aims to alleviate the dire conditions faced by countless Filipino students.

"Every day, thousands of Filipino children are crammed into classrooms, with some even studying in tents or temporary spaces," Congressman Loria stated, highlighting the unacceptable reality for many young learners. These overcrowded and inadequate learning environments hinder students' ability to focus and thrive academically.

The urgency of the situation is underscored by the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II), which reported a staggering shortage of over 165,000 classrooms nationwide as of 2023. This massive shortfall has resulted in schools resorting to double or even triple shifts, placing immense strain on both students and teachers.

The Classroom Acceleration Act seeks to remedy this crisis by fostering collaboration between local government units (LGUs) and the private sector. By pooling resources and expertise, the bill aims to accelerate the construction and renovation of classrooms, ensuring that Filipino students have access to safe and conducive learning environments.
