Garbin Backs DTI Claim: P500 Can Cover Basic Noche Buena

₱500 Noche Buena Budget Possible With Budget-Friendly Brands, Says Rep. Garbin

Ako Bicol Partylist Congressman Atty. Alfredo “Pido” Garbin has shared his perspective on the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) claim that a family can stretch a ₱500 budget for Noche Buena. Garbin’s statement comes amid ongoing debate over the affordability of traditional Christmas fare for Filipino households this holiday season.

According to the lawmaker in an interview, the range of items that can be covered by ₱500 depends on the type and brand of products purchased. He cited the LGU Legazpi’s Christmas gift pack – which costs ₱500 and includes spaghetti, macaroni, spaghetti sauce, canned goods, and fruit cocktail – as an example of how the budget can be maximized.

Garbin noted that the ₱500 budget is feasible for families with three to four members, provided they choose more affordable brands. He emphasized that smart shopping and prioritizing essential items can help households put together a shared Noche Buena meal without overspending.

In conclusion, Garbin stated that with the right selection of ingredients and careful consideration of brand choices, families can indeed gather for a meaningful Noche Buena with a ₱500 budget. His take offers a more nuanced view of the DTI’s original claim, highlighting that affordability is possible through practical purchasing decisions.
