Legazpi Diocese Leads Solidarity Walk Against Corruption, Teachers Voice Outrage
Legazpi City, Albay – A diverse coalition of teachers, church leaders, civic organizations, students, and local residents marched through the streets of Legazpi City today in the "Lakaw Laban sa Katiwalian" (Walk Against Corruption) solidarity walk. Organized by the Diocese of Legazpi and the Albay Movement Against Corruption (AMAC), the event aimed to denounce corruption and promote accountability, transparency, and justice within Philippine society.
The Teachers' Dignity Coalition (TDC) was a prominent participant in the walk, lending its voice to the growing chorus of Filipinos demanding an end to corruption. TDC-Bicol Spokesperson Arnel Adtoon took to the stage to express the organization's solidarity with the Filipino people. "We in TDC stand with all Filipinos in the fight against corruption," Adtoon declared, "Alongside our solidarity is our dismay and anger at the rampant corruption in the country."
Adtoon's message resonated deeply with the crowd, highlighting the frustration felt by many educators who strive to instill values of honesty and integrity in their students. He questioned how teachers can be proud to guide the future generation when the path ahead is riddled with corruption. "It is said, 'Be proud you are a teacher, the future depends on you,' but how can we be proud if the path we tread and the future we face are rife with corruption!" Adtoon exclaimed.
The "Lakaw Laban sa Katiwalian" solidarity walk underscores the growing public discontent with corruption and the demand for greater accountability from public officials. The participation of various sectors of society, including teachers, demonstrates a unified front in the fight for a more transparent and just Philippines. The event served as a powerful reminder that the pursuit of good governance requires collective action and unwavering commitment from all citizens.
