Naga City Pioneers AI-Powered Transparency in Infrastructure Projects

By: Nel Adtoon
Under the leadership of Mayor Leni Robredo, Naga City is spearheading a groundbreaking initiative to enhance public accountability through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in monitoring infrastructure projects. This move aims to revolutionize how the city manages and oversees public works, ensuring transparency and efficiency.

The digital platform will provide real-time tracking and updates on project progress, giving citizens clear and accessible information about the use of public funds. Mayor Robredo emphasized the importance of this system, stating, "Naga City will pioneer a model where contractors and LGU offices use the same transparent platform," during the Innovators Assembly. She envisions an “unprecedented feedback loop of participation and accountability,” empowering citizens to directly rate and comment on projects.

PhilCentro President Voxstra Corbett, who designed the AI tool, is collaborating with Robredo to expose and prevent corruption patterns. Naga City will be the first Local Government Unit (LGU) to implement such a system, marking a significant step towards transparent governance. Contractors will upload documents and certify progress on the same platform used by City Hall, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and informed.

As part of her advocacy for honest governance, Mayor Robredo has also mandated the placement of QR codes on public project signages, linking to the MyNaga App. This initiative is anchored in the Anti-Epal Ordinance, which aims to shift focus from promoting politicians to showcasing the actual results of projects.

Training for the full implementation of the AI-powered anti-corruption tool is set to begin, with the system expected to be fully operational by 2026. This comprehensive approach underscores Naga City's commitment to innovation and integrity in public service.
