PASIG CITY MAYOR VICO SOTTO ADVOCATES "BIBINGKA STRATEGY" FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE

Pasig City, Philippines – Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto recently shared his political views, advocating a "Bibingka Strategy" for achieving effective and lasting good governance. Drawing from his background as a political science graduate, Sotto explained that the strategy, named after the Filipino rice cake cooked with heat from both above and below, emphasizes the need for a two-pronged approach to reform.

"As a political science graduate, we often discussed the 'Bibingka Strategy'," Sotto stated. "When cooking bibingka, you need two sources of heat – one from above and one from below."

He elaborated, "Introducing changes in our nation requires the same approach. We need champions of good and honest governance from the top. But we also need people at the bottom who will push and meet us halfway. It can't be one or the other. We need both."

Sotto emphasized that the public's engagement is crucial for success. "Everyone is watching. Everyone is really concerned. Everyone is tired of the old ways and corruption. It's too much," he said, expressing the widespread desire for change.

He further explained that even with good government officials in place, progress is limited without an engaged citizenry. "When I say it has to be from the top and the bottom, it means even if there are good government officials but the people don't care, it's still ineffective. That's what we're seeing now that's a bit different. The people also need to be more engaged."

Mayor Sotto's "Bibingka Strategy" underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between leaders and citizens in achieving genuine and sustainable progress in governance.
